In 2007 I travelled with our son to the Dominican Republic for a week long recreational baseball tournament against Club Villa Olga, a DR club team of teen-age baseball players. Club Villa Olga, based in Santiago, was a long-standing youth baseball club training young players, some of whom aspired to play major league ball in the US. Baseball in the DR is serious business and these local players spent most waking hours building their skills, training and playing ball. Using a Mamiya medium format film camera, I made these portraits to commemorate the event and communicate the players’ devotion to the game.
